Back in the early 2000s there were various religious fundamentalist websites I regularly visited for the laughs (this was the height of the fundie backlash against Pokémon and Harry Potter, for context) and amongst them was a site called Exposing Satanism, run by one Jon Watkins. The site popped back into my head while I’ve been doing research into the modern revival of the Satanic Panic, so I decided to take a look and see if it was still around. Lo and behold, this Web 1.0 monument to Jon Watkins’ personal obsessions not only stands (Comic Sans branding and all) but is still being regularly updated!
One of my favourite pages on the site back in the day was Watkins’ badly-researched list of occult symbols. Turns out the list is still there all these years later, but revised and expanded to include such notorious symbols as… the logo of the Anti-Defamation League:
Exposing Satanism also features a list of demons and their characteristics; this is the result of Jon Watkins copying someone else’s list of mythological and demonological figures and adding his own grossly misinformed commentary (apparently Crest toothpaste is named after the demon Cresil. Yes, really.) In his introduction to the page, Watkins claims that there are also demons with more straightforwardly descriptive names:
Demons and evil spirits can and will take on any name they desire. For instance, they will take on the name of porno which reflects what the possessed person is in bondage to, Pornography. I have dealt with demons calling themselves, alcohol, homo, liar, religion, etc. They are proud and will give away what they represent by giving you their name, hence relating what the person has done to open a doorway to let them in. They will also masquerade as person, meaning a split personality and take on a human name.
All of this is pretty par for the course when it comes to turn-of-the-millennium fundamentalist websites, but I’ll have to give credit where it’s due. Jon Watkins has made an effort to stay up to date by spending a good portion of his more recent posts riding a very modern hobby-horse: transgender people.
Across Exposing Satanism you’ll find blog posts with titles like “Lucifer: The Original Tranny”, “Tranny Curse Handed Down – Entire Family of Four turns Transgender” and “Antifa Trannys Stage Satanic Ritual”. Here are some excerpts that do a good job of summing up Jon’s opinions on the matter.

Apparently, punishment for kiddy-fiddling is to be transformed into a millstone and have a gloating dude tied to you while you get thrown into the sea to meet a badly-photoshopped version of the Beast from Doctor Who’s The Satan Pit.
I’ll conclude this post by giving the last word to Jon Watkins himself, as he explains why his beliefs are superior to all others:
If you go to the store to buy Meat, don’t run to the Milk section or the Junk Food aisle looking for it.
The Meat Section is the True Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Milk Section is likened to those who will not preach on sin and Hell, just a feel good message.
The Junk Food Isle is the outright false doctrine AKA the prosperity gospel, name it and claim it, the Hebraic Roots movement and other false teachings!!
Feasting on just Milk and Junk will eventually cause you great harm!
